Experience our gift to the Mueller community.
The mural, titled "Taking Flight," is a gift from Texas Mutual to the Mueller neighborhood as a symbol of our commitment to the community in honor of our 30th anniversary. It reflects our shared future and embodies the thriving spirit of the neighborhood which came into being on the site of Austin’s former airport.
Components of the mural were inspired by Mueller neighbors and visitors after the artists set up a table on the sidewalk one weekend and invited people to share what they would like represented in the imagery and what “taking flight” means to them.
The augmented reality video above explores more about the meaning behind the mural, and is intended to help you reflect on the meaning of “taking flight” in your own life as well.
The husband-and-wife duo, Cindy and Ernesto Hernandez, were selected as the muralists by a panel of Mueller community stakeholders after an open call to local artists.
Cindy and Ernesto have been painting murals and participating in collective art exhibits together in Central Texas. They are passionate about sharing their knowledge and respect for their indigenous ancestry through community engagement. They exhibit in gallery shows and cultural festivals with individual and collaborative art pieces.
A vibrant mural celebrating the boundless possibilities and dreams that soar beyond the horizon.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Mueller community neighbors and stakeholders whose valuable input has helped shape this project every step of the way.
