Texas Mutual is committed to improving the wellness of our communities across the state. We know that heart health is fundamental to that mission. According to the American Heart Association (AHA), heart disease is the underlying cause of approximately 1 in 3 deaths. Through our strategic partnership with the AHA, we’re helping to bring awareness to heart health and improve the lives of Texans.

Texas Mutual at the Austin Spurs

Earlier this month, Texas Mutual and the Austin Spurs teamed up for “Go Red Night” in support of the AHA. The Spurs players wore red jerseys and fans were encouraged to wear red during the game. Autographed red jerseys were auctioned off raising $4,680 for the AHA.

February is Heart Month, which is a time to learn the impact of heart disease and recognize what it takes to be heart healthy. To help you keep your heart in mind, we’re sharing pictures from the “Go Red Night” Spurs game and tips for a healthier heart below.

Learn the signs: Heart attacks, cardiac arrest and strokes are life-threatening emergencies, so every second counts. Call 9-1-1 immediately if you experience any of the warning signs.

Follow Life’s Simple 7: The American Heart Association (AHA) recommends seven easy-to-embrace tips for reducing your risk of heart disease. Life’s Simple 7 include getting active, controlling your cholesterol, eating better, managing your blood pressure, maintaining a healthy weight, reducing your blood sugar and giving up smoking.

Focus on workplace wellness: We spend most of our waking hours at work. If we want to follow Life’s Simple 7, we have to learn to do it on the job, as well as at home. Employers can help by offering a workplace wellness program. The AHA offers a free suite of evidence-based tools to help you get the most out of your program.

Life is why
The AHA is on a mission to improve by 20 percent the cardiovascular health of all Americans and reduce by 20 percent deaths from cardiovascular diseases and stroke, by the year 2020. Texas Mutual is proud to support their mission.
