Biden announces intent to nominate Julie Su to lead Department of Labor
Following the planned departure of Marty Walsh, President Joe Biden has announced his intent to nominate Julie Su for labor secretary. Su currently serves as deputy secretary and previously held the position of labor secretary in California. After the nomination, Su is expected to appear before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee for a hearing.

NIOSH publishes fluid transfer video for oil and gas industry
A new video from NIOSH discusses safe work practices for fluid transfers between tanks and tanker trucks. Recommendations are provided for each level in the hierarchy of controls. The resource is intended for oil and gas extraction companies and their employees.

Video series explains occupational hearing loss
The NHCA published the first video in a new series that provides education on the impact of occupational hearing loss as well as tips on how to prevent it. The videos also showcase conversations with employees who have experienced hearing loss and/or tinnitus.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, ladder-related incidents caused over 800 deaths and 27,000 injuries from 2017 to 2021. Grain safety week starts March 27
This year’s Stand Up 4 Grain Safety Week will occur March 27-31. Topics of focus this year include powered industrial trucks, preventative maintenance, emerging health issues, heat stress, and ammonia and fumigation. Employers can register for virtual training sessions and confirm participation with a downloadable certificate.
