NIOSH seeks oil and gas employees for driving study

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, motor vehicle crashes are responsible for over 50% of fatalities in oil and gas extraction. In an effort to identify causes and solutions, NIOSH is calling on employers and employees to participate in its study on motor vehicle safety in the oil and gas industry. The agency is conducting virtual interviews with employees and focus groups with managers.

OSHA launches new emphasis program for falls

OSHA has started a National Emphasis Program aimed at preventing injuries and fatalities caused by falls. Under the program, OSHA compliance officers can open inspections whenever they see employees working at heights. The officers will focus on outreach to educate employers about effective fall prevention methods.
