DOL supports employees’ well-being though mental health initiative

Over 80% of employees report suffering from work-related stress. The Department of Labor’s Mental Health at Work initiative aims to raise awareness and improve conversations around mental health. The agency offers educational resources to employers and employees to help address mental health needs.

NIOSH publishes new video on fluid transfers

According to NIOSH, at least 12 employees were fatally injured while transferring fluids at well sites between 2016 and 2020. To educate employees on safe work practices, NIOSH produced a new video for truck divers transferring process fluids, such as oil and gas, from wells to other locations. The video explains several effective control methods.

OSHA and NIOSH update handbook for small businesses

OSHA and NIOSH have updated the Small Business Safety and Health Handbook, intended to help employers address common hazards and incorporate a successful safety and health program. The updated handbook includes additional self-inspection checklists for ergonomics, young employees, workplace violence and infection control.

Trailer safety week starts June 4

National Trailer Safety Week takes place June 4-10. The Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) provides five tips to help employees use trailers safely. Topics include selecting towing equipment, checking tires, preparing for emergencies, hitching correctly and using wheel chocks.
