Employee recovery stories: Josh’s journey
In January of 2016, Josh was working on sealing a roof for his construction job and suffered a near fatal fall. The event was devastating not only to Josh and his family, but his co-workers and employer as well. Josh’s determined attitude, the compassionate support from his employer and a helping hand from Texas Mutual paved the way for his recovery.
The roof where Josh was working had low profile skylights, which were difficult to see. He accidentally stepped through one and fell to the ground below, breaking his pelvis and severely injuring his head. At the hospital, Josh was put on life support and underwent multiple surgeries. His employer recounts visiting Josh in the hospital with some of his co-workers. They were overwhelmed by seeing their friend in such a condition.
As his employer’s workers’ compensation carrier, Texas Mutual stepped in immediately to coordinate care and financial support, continuing through Josh’s rehabilitation. His employer says that workers’ comp not only helped Josh, but saved the life of the business. Josh also credits his Texas Mutual adjuster, Kristina, for playing a large role in getting him to where he is today through coordinating timely and compassionate care.
About seven months after the accident, Josh’s employer created a new department and position so that Josh could come back to work in a doctor-approved capacity and still fit in his physical therapy.
