Supporting disaster response to Texas wildfires

Wildfires in Texas

In late February, deadly wildfires started in the Texas Panhandle, causing devastation for ranchers and other residents in the area. The Smokehouse Creek Fire quickly became the largest in state history, burning over one million acres. Our hearts go out to everyone impacted by the wildfires and Texas Mutual is standing strong with you by supporting ongoing recovery and relief efforts.

Last month, we contributed $25,000 to the Amarillo Area Foundation’s Panhandle Disaster Relief Fund to help support its wildfire relief efforts. The Amarillo Area Foundation has been working to improve quality of life for Texas Panhandle residents for over 65 years. In 2006, the organization started a relief fund to serve communities and over 400,000 residents of the Texas Panhandle after disasters such as wildfires.

So far, the Amarillo Area Foundation has distributed over $1 million to support those affected by the wildfires. Its funds are providing shelter, food and clothing to those in need and will also go toward long-term recovery efforts.

“We are humbled and encouraged by the outpouring of concern and support we have received the last few weeks,” said Keralee Clay, senior vice president of Amarillo Area Foundation. “It will be a long and arduous road to recovery and these funds will greatly assist.”

Additionally, we contributed $5,000 to TEXSAR, who deployed a team to the Panhandle in March. TEXSAR is a first responder organization specializing in search and rescue, disaster relief, unmanned aircraft systems support and more. Its volunteers are aiding relief efforts in the Panhandle by delivering supplies and supporting local agencies.

We’re proud to support organizations like the Amarillo Area Foundation and TEXSAR, which are helping take care of our communities and individuals across the state when needed most. Learn more about the disaster preparedness resources that Texas Mutual offers.
