At Texas Mutual, we work hard to make sure that every Texan gets home safe from work each and every day. We do that by helping our policyholders prevent injuries in their workplaces, keeping our own employees safe and by spreading the message and safety resources to other Texans. Our Work Safe, Texas Summit helps us to do just that.
Earlier this month, we brought our summit to Dallas where we hosted a panel discussion on industry-specific safety programs, presented information about the effects of new OSHA requirements on businesses, discussed innovative workplace technologies and more.

Safety for the Service, Construction and Manufacturing Industries
Tracy Merzi, publisher of the Dallas Business Journal, moderated a panel discussion with three business leaders on how they address safety in their workplaces. Frances Davis, claims manager for Select Staffing; Tammy Bennett, safety and health manager for Darr Equipment Co. and Luciano Perez, safety manager for KPost Co., discussed how building a safety culture starts with leadership and how to use incentives to motivate employees to stay safe on the job.
Training on OSHA Compliance and Regulatory Changes
Texas Mutual's Vice President of Safety Services Eric Bourquin gave a presentation on OSHA compliance and regulatory changes. He discussed what to do if OSHA conducts a site visit at your business and how much businesses could be fined for non-compliance, helping attendees to know exactly what to expect from OSHA and how to stay off their radar by maintaining a safe workplace.
Safety in the Box
With Safety in a Box, a Google cardboard viewer, and its accompanying mobile app with construction and manufacturing simulations, allows users to experience workplace hazards without actually putting themselves at risk. Safety in a Box now offers simulations of workplace hazards in the construction and manufacturing industries. Attendees were able to experience Safety in a Box and each received their own Google cardboard viewer.
Last year, Texas Mutual launched a new tool: Safety in a Box, a Google cardboard viewer and an accompanying mobile app with construction and manufacturing simulations that allow users to experience workplace hazards without putting themselves at risk. Attendees were able to experience Safety in a Box and received their own to take with them and share at their workplace.
Technology and Innovation in the Workplace
Texas Mutual’s Vice President of Customer Experience and Innovation Woody Hill discussed how technology is helping to improve workplace safety. From smart watches to smart tennis shoes, innovative technology is giving employees tools to better track their health and safety while on the job.
