OSHA urges employers to protect employees from poor air quality

Parts of the country are experiencing unhealthy air pollution due to Canadian wildfires, which is especially hazardous for employees working outdoors. OSHA is urging employers to implement a plan and controls to protect their employees. OSHA and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health offer resources to help employers educate and protect their staff.

Trench safety webinar on June 21

In recognition of trench safety week, OSHA is hosting a trench safety webinar. The session will discuss trenching injuries and fatalities, an overview of the agency’s trenching initiative and best practices used by OSHA-recognized businesses.

During last week’s Safety 2023 conference, OSHA’s leader, Doug Parker discussed current agency focus areas and answered live questions from the audience. New emphasis program expected for warehouse safety

During a forklift safety event, Doug Parker announced that the agency will be launching a new National Emphasis Program this summer to focus on high injury rates in warehouses. Parker stated that the program will focus on all aspects of the operation, including powered industrial trucks.

Construction employees may be at risk for lung disease

A new study published in the American Journal of Industrial Medicine found that construction employees are at an increased risk of lung disease that involves a restrictive spirometry pattern (RSP). The disease stems from exposure to hazardous material such as dust. Over 28% of participating employees developed RSP.
