Texas Mutual awards $2 million in policyholder safety grants
This summer, Texas Mutual committed $2 million in safety grants to help policyholders purchase safety equipment to help reduce or eliminate workplace injuries and illnesses. The safety grant program opened in July and eligible policyholders were invited to apply on a first-come, first-served basis. After an extensive review process, 1,343 policyholders were approved for a $1,500 safety grant, totaling over $2 million.
Application process
Safety grant applicants were asked to provide company information and detail what types of equipment they planned to purchase and how it would improve safety and health conditions in their workplace. Applications were reviewed by a grant committee of safety professionals who ensured that applicants were asking for approved equipment which aligned with their business operations.
The overwhelming majority of items requested were in the personal protective equipment category of clothing, shoes and hats. Specific items include steel toed boots, high visibility clothing, cooling vests and hard hats. Respiratory protection and first response equipment, including first-aid kits and AEDs, were the second and third most requested categories.
Each approved applicant received $1,500 toward the purchase of approved safety equipment listed in their application. This includes ergonomic, safety, disease and illness prevention and industrial hygiene equipment.
Program information
