Free trench safety webinar, National Safety Month resources and more

Safety meeting

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)

Free webinar on trench and excavation safety

OSHA is kicking off Trench Safety Month in June with a free webinar on working safely in and near excavations and trenches. The presentation will focus on how to prevent deadly caught-in and crushed-by injuries caused by trench collapses. The webinar is scheduled for Wednesday, June 5 at 11 a.m. CDT.

The National Safety Council (NSC)

National Safety Month begins June 1

Each week in June, the NSC will share free resources focused on preventing leading causes of workplace injuries and fatalities as a part of National Safety Month. This year’s weekly safety topics are safety engagement, roadway safety, risk reduction and slips, trips and falls. Participants who sign up for free on the website will gain access to a campaign poster, weekly 5-minute safety talks, games, webinars and more.

The benefits of geofencing

The NSC published a white paper exploring how location geofencing technology can significantly reduce workplace accidents through real-time alerts and automated responses. This technology uses GPS or radio signals to create virtual perimeters around hazardous areas, like construction sites or machine operation zones. When employees or equipment enter or leave these zones, the geofencing system can trigger pre-programmed actions, such as sending alerts or even disabling machinery.

The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP)

How artificial intelligence (AI) can impact workplace safety

An interview with an industry expert explores how AI can improve workplace safety through data analysis and hazard identification with computer vision. Safety professionals are encouraged to brainstorm about AI's potential applications in safety and ask vendors about AI applications. However, the interview emphasizes that AI is a tool to enhance human expertise, not replace it.
