OSHA seeks comments before United Nations meeting

OSHA will hold a virtual public meeting this month to gather comments and information that will help determine the U.S.’s positions at the upcoming July meeting of the United Nations Sub-Committee of Experts on the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (UNSCEGHS). To establish the hazcom positions of the U.S., OSHA will work with the U.S. Interagency Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) Coordinating Group to consider comments and other information from the virtual meeting, which will take place on June 11 at 12 p.m. CDT.

Active hurricane season expected

NOAA predicts an above-normal Atlantic hurricane season for 2024. Their forecast anticipates 17-25 named storms, with 8-13 of those transitioning into hurricanes. The administration plans to enhance their communication efforts, including expanded Spanish language resources and the introduction of a new forecast cone graphic that depicts inland wind threats.

A recent study found a link between authentic leadership and positive safety culture. According to the researchers, authentic leaders are self-aware, consider different viewpoints and communicate openly. Companies can develop authentic leadership skills in their safety professionals by teaching authentic behaviors, offering programs to develop servant leaders and providing mentorship and coaching opportunities.

New framework proposed for well-being training

This NIOSH Science Blog article proposes a framework to develop and evaluate training programs for Total Worker Health (TWH). TWH aims to protect employees' safety and health while promoting their overall well-being. The framework includes specific knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) needed by professionals, such as subject matter expertise, promotion and expertise, and partnership building and coordination.
