Texas Mutual partners with South Texas College

Texas Mutual presenting check to South Texas College

At Texas Mutual, we're committed to building a stronger, safer Texas. One way we deliver on that promise is by partnering with several Texas colleges to provide safety and health training. This month, we’re thrilled to be expanding the program with our newest college partner, South Texas College (STC), in McAllen.

For over two decades, Texas Mutual has partnered with colleges across the state to provide free or discounted workplace safety and health courses to local businesses, their employees and the general public. Our newest partnership will grow our reach to the Rio Grande Valley by providing a $100,000 grant to STC's Center for Advanced Training and Apprenticeships (CATA) and Continuing Education and Workforce Development.

This grant will fund a variety of crucial safety trainings, including:

  • OSHA 10 and 30 general industry and construction courses
  • Powered industrial truck operator certification and recertification
  • National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Core
  • Bloodborne pathogens certification
  • Mobile elevated working platforms training
  • First aid/CPR and advanced life support courses

These offerings are tailored to meet the needs of industries vital to the South Texas region, such as health care, construction, manufacturing and transportation. By providing accessible safety education, we're not only helping to prevent workplace accidents but also supporting the growth and development of the local workforce.

The addition of South Texas College brings our total college partnerships to 12, spanning from El Paso to Beaumont and from Amarillo to the Rio Grande Valley. In the past 25 years, we've awarded $13 million in safety education grants, benefiting over 61,000 students who have attended free or discounted safety and health courses.

We believe that a well-trained workforce is a safer workforce. By investing in education and partnering with institutions like South Texas College, we're not just reducing workplace injuries—we’re investing in the future of Texas.
