OSHA announces safety meetings, NIOSH explores brain health and more
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
OSHA has scheduled virtual meetings of the Advisory Committee on Construction Safety and Health (ACCSH) on October 29 and 30, starting at 9 a.m. CDT each day. The agenda includes workgroup meetings on emerging technology, work zones and health in construction. There will also be remarks from Assistant Secretary Douglas Parker, updates from the Directorate of Construction and discussions on hearing conservation and women in construction. Public comments are due by October 23.

NIOSH highlights initiative promoting brain health in the workplace
NIOSH's latest edition of Promising Practice spotlights the Business Collaborative for Brain Health, an initiative led by UsAgainstAlzheimer's to promote brain health in workplaces. The Collaborative has partnered with the Health Enhancement Research Organization (HERO) and Mercer to launch the Brain Health Best Practice Score. This new resource helps organizations assess and improve their brain health initiatives. Over 420 companies have already used this tool, with the data helping to identify trends and validate interventions for both health and business benefits.
NIOSH examines use of truck-mounted attenuators in emergency services
NIOSH is exploring the adoption of truck-mounted attenuators (TMAs) by fire and emergency services to protect employees during roadway incidents. Originally used in construction, TMAs are energy-absorbing devices that reduce impact force in collisions. The article discusses various ways emergency services are implementing TMAs, including retrofitting retired vehicles and purchasing purpose-built blockers. NIOSH identifies knowledge gaps in TMA use for emergency services and suggests future research directions to ensure safe and effective implementation.

National School Bus Safety Week promotes safe transportation for students
The NHTSA highlights National School Bus Safety Week, occurring October 21-25. This annual event educates parents, students, teachers and motorists about school bus safety. NHTSA's school bus safety tips include stopping for school buses with flashing red lights and extended stop arms and understanding school bus light signals.
