TDI announces updated average weekly wage amounts
Each year, the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) determines the minimum and maximum weekly income benefit amounts for injured employees within the Texas workers’ compensation system using the state average weekly wage (SAWW). Learn more about the 2025 rates and find out how it affects sole proprietors below.
2025 workers’ compensation benefits rates
The 2025 SAWW is $1,218.62. Based on this amount, the agency also calculates minimum and maximum weekly amounts for workers’ comp benefit types:

These new rates apply for claims with dates of injury starting October 1, 2024 through September 30, 2025.
Payroll calculations for sole proprietors
Texas Mutual provides coverage to sole proprietors, partners and their working spouses, unless they are specifically excluded by an endorsement. The payroll for these individuals is a fixed annual amount based on the SAWW, regardless of their actual wages.
Payroll = SAWW X 1.25 X 52 weeks
Based on the 2025 SAWW, the payroll for sole proprietors, partners and their working spouses beginning October 1, 2024 is $79,200.
