Texas Mutual partners with Code2College for IT education event

On September 28, Texas Mutual hosted about 25 high school students with Code2College at our corporate office for a case competition. For the second consecutive year, kids spent time with members of our IT department working on a webpage design challenge to gain real-world experience. Our volunteers taught the students agile principles, lead them through design exercises and supported them in collaborating throughout their challenge.

During the event, students were broken up into groups and tasked with creating a Texas Mutual homepage. They collaborated with each other and members of our IT department to design their pages. At the end of the challenge, groups presented their ideas to Texas Mutual employees who volunteered as judges for the competition and awarded prizes. The students gained valuable, professional experience throughout the day as well as insight into an IT career.

Watch the video below to see the students in action and hear about what the experience meant to them and our volunteers.

Code2College is a nonprofit organization focused on providing education and support for kids and young adults to excel in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) undergraduate majors and careers. They’re working hard to increase the rate at which historically underrepresented groups, such as women, Black and Latine students complete STEM majors and enter the workforce with a related position.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to partner with Code2Colllege on events like this to help inspire young minds and grow students’ talents. Supporting education and training is just one way we’re helping to develop the insurance talent of the future.
