Texas Mutual provides $1.1 million in safety training grants
At Texas Mutual, we believe that a well-trained workforce is a safer one. We’ve been partnering with colleges across the state since 1999 to support health and wellness education for working Texans. This year, we awarded $1.1 million to 11 colleges in Texas to support their risk management programs. Utilizing our funds, colleges offer free or discounted workplace safety and health courses to local businesses, their employees and the general public.
This year's safety education grants will be supporting programs at:
- Amarillo College
- Angelina College in Lufkin
- College of the Mainland in Texas City
- Del Mar College in Corpus Christi
- El Paso Community College
- Kilgore College
- Lamar Institute of Technology in Beaumont
- Midland College
- Odessa College
- South Texas College in McAllen
- Texarkana College
Texas Mutual also partners with the Risk Management Institute at Lee College in Baytown.
We’re excited to continue our partnership with South Texas College in McAllen, which joined our network of colleges last year. This expansion allows us to further extend our reach and support workplace safety education in the Rio Grande Valley.
Courses commonly offered at these institutes include Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) outreach courses, CPR & first aid, equipment operation and fall protection. The colleges also provide courses tailored to the primary industries in their communities such as Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and oil and gas hazard awareness.
In the last 26 years, we've awarded $14.1 million in safety education grants to our college partners, and more than 73,500 students have attended free or discounted safety and health courses. We're proud to partner with colleges that share in our commitment to building a stronger, safer Texas.
